abhinav bindra of india has won the first ever alumpic gold medal in individual events. he has achieved this feat in 10 meter air rifle.
india has won 8 more gold medals ever since the start of the modern olympics in 1896 but all were in hockey.... no individual event. it took 112 yeras to get a individual gold for a country of 112 crores.
lets hope its just the start which will give a lot of impetus to sports india. this will make all of us realise that there are other sports and games except cricket (in which our performance is not very good too despite having top most batsmen)
