Hi Guys, this is a blog by my cousin who went on this first year anniversary trip to Wayanad. Thought I'll share it with you.
Hello all , sorry for not blogging , i was pretty pretty much tied up with work and pavi's interior works, we had a rough busy month, but in spite of all the issues we manage to escape from every thing for our first anniversary :) , yeah yeah we completed one year, (once u read this, wish us from your heart, good, thanks for the wish :) we both love you).
Pavi was totally worried and curious about where we headed for our first anniversary, i told her its a total surprise [well i actually planned for Andaman , but i couldn't afford it in short span of time :( ].So, pavi was disappointed and she was thinking that the anniversary is going to be just as normal as any other day .But, she had forgotten her husband is known for surprises , well our anniversary was on Friday the 18th May 2007, but nothing was decide till Sunday 13th May 2007.I was just comforting Pavi everything is planned don't worry ;). Then on Monday 14th May 2007 i got on Google and made search for resorts in wayanad and decided on Rain Country Resorts ( www.raincountryresort.com). Raju had been to Wayanad for Good Friday weekend and Shekar and Rohit had done trekking in Chembra peak in Wayanad District in Kerala near to Karanataka.
I started my journey on Wednesday @ 11 am ( supposed leave at 5 am ) you know Indian standards :D, just me, pavi and my Saviour Red Maruti 800 ( dad's , very economy caz it runs on LPG) and Pavi had no clue where we had headed until noon where she tortured me for knowing the place .Had lunch in out skirts of Gundalpet by 2 pm and reached the resort by 5 pm.
Route Map: Bangalore -> Mysore->Nanjangudu->GundalPet ( take right to Sultan's Bathery) ->Muthunga( Kerala & Karanataka Border [NH212])->Sulthan's Bathery->Kalpeta(Head quaters of Wayanad District)->Vythri->Lakkidi( end of Waynad District after which Calicut District starts) full stretch from Bandipur to Lakkidi was a wonderful driving experience. ( 300kms from Bangalore to Lakkidi )
Rain Country Resort was situated 8kms from Lakkidi which is 3 kms off the NH212. We had to drive on single muddy dirt road and on one side of the road was Tea and Vanilla Plantations( hhmmm smell of Vanilla was too good). The resort has 4 individual cottages ( non wooden) and 4 non individual cottages (wooden) and 2 separate honeymoon wooden cottages. There is no TV in the cottages and no signal from your mobile subscribers, totally out from all your tensions. You can also locate the place in Google earth by just typing Rain Country Resorts.Prices are reasonable Rs 3600/day for wooden cottages.
We settled in honeymoon cottage for a day as it was already booked for other days ( gr8 planning by me :( ) for other days we got wooden cottages, which is good not as good as honeymoon cottage .Later, we had a bonfire buffet where the ducks came asking for food to Pavi and she was feeling soo em brassed ( that was funny). Thursday 17th May 2007 we went for Edakkal Caves (http://www.edakkal.com/) you got trek the steep mountain was tiring but exciting and we wnt to Soochippara water falls (http://wayanad.nic.in/soochippara%20waterfalls.htm) where we had to walk 2 kms to the falls, thank god it was after good kerala chicken birayni lunch in woodlands near kalpeta. We reached the resort by 8 pm and we just crash landed after dinner.
The next day yabadabadooooo!! the day Friday 18th May 2007 , completion of a year wow , it feels great, but feels it was too short, caz we are still fighting on small things and we are understanding each other, we feel we are still not so responsible in our lives ( well i dont want to to be anyways ;) ), we just wanted to relax in the resort, nothing much , we slept well , we had walked around the resort in the evening and i had ordered for cake and candle light dinner out side the cottage next to the natural stream. We spent time in the evening by discussing plans for future, and we landed in long discussions and suddenly around 8 pm there was a knock, i open the door of the cottage holy molly , i couldn't believe the cottage veranda was lit by lamps the one u lit during deepavali and just opp to the door was the table and 2 chairs with chocolate cake on the top. Pavi was soo surprised , i myself was soo surprised by the small gesture from the resort manager Pravin , i really thank them for making it memorable evening. the best evening we ever had together , with Pavi's favourite Kashmiri Pulavo and my favouirte Gulab Jamoon . We were enjoying the candle light dinner in the middle of the forest next to the stream surrounded by lamps and favorite food , what else you need and guess what NO MOSQUITOES. Rain Country Resort do not do candle light dinner in the room but on request they did a great job. i love them all.
Saturday 19th May 2007 , so sad to leave the place we left around 11 am and reached Bangalore around 7 pm .Over all it was amazing , there are so many places to see in Wayanad and for all the places we go to trek and walk, so be prepared. I am going to visit Wayand soon with my trekking gear, join me
